Long rear fender cutouts

OK...I do not have great search skills.....but here in Eugene, OR (no snow, some daffodiles are starting bloom, you bad weather guys are nuts) I was passed by a rather good looking gal in an xj much like mine on first look ( champage 96 6" lift and all lots of good stuff), but the rear wells were cut out from rear door to taillights....no gas door. the red light got me and I couldnt follow. wondering if this was done to move rearend back and get more clearance? Anyone seen this?

Its called a "comp cut." Gains you tire clearance, and you can move the axle back.

there are several rigs cut like that on here. you may want to search "reader's rigs" in the pic forum.

i have a 5 inch stretch and was the main reason for the complete cut ... also going to run some tube for rear fenders...

ignore the poor cuts - it will be covered with tube and sheet metal...
