i broke the top part of it and need to find out what its called it comes from the top of the thermo housing and splits into the heater core

When looking at a JY the valves from early 90's dodge caravan's are the exact same.
 
If you delete the valve you will have heat to the core all summer long. That may work ok in Crawlorado, but not so much further south. It will fight with the A/C and reduce it's effectiveness when you really need it.

Valves can be had at most auto parts houses.

Later model XJ's came without the valve from the factory.
