How Involved is the Renault Diesel Swap?

I'm interested in getting better mpg and swapping in a small diesel. How hard is swapping in the Renault diesel? Can it go in a 1993 XJ or is it best to put it in a mid 80's XJ like it came in? From my research, it seems it came with the AX5 tranny? Is this correct? Is the swap as simple (!) as finding a Renault engine, diesel fuel delivery system, and an AX5 or does it get deeper, darker, and horrendously worse than that?

I looked into it before. My investigations lead me to believe it is far more complicated than it seems. It would be a lot easier to find a jeep that already had a diesel (not easy) and then fix it up.
