OK so i swapped a 1999 motor into my 2000XJ.

I used the coil pack instead of the distributor.

started it up now its not running right?

burns black smoke and doesnt idle.

now im wondering...

if there a difference in the years?

i know the 1999s used cap and wires.

but was there a difference in sensors?

does the 2000's use a crank sensor?

2000 uses a crank position sensor and a cam position sensor that mounts in the housing that is like the distributor. So did you swap the distributor/cam position sensor? Did you time that using the toothpick hole?
