Go with radiator barn. Fast shipping, good prices, and they did a quick replacement when mine showed up damaged.

I actually have the "bad" one that I received in my backyard minus the fill-spout. If you could get the one I have off my dead one (fan went through it) brazed on, you might have a working rad.
 
No mods. I actually bought the radiator for the 92 MJ. But I ended up putting it in the 98 XJ.

And it's brass, I believe.
