Winch line speed

The Superwinch has the slowest line speed of just about any winch I have researched. It has a 4.5 HP motor (not so low a HP) and 235:1 gear ratio (not so low a ratio) with a line speed on the bottom layer of 3.5 FPM under a 8500 lb load. By contrast the Champion has a line speed of 5.5 FPM at 8000lbs with only a 3.6 HP motor and 294:1 gears. From what I've read and from basic physics the Superwinch should be substantially faster than the Champion, but its not.

What am I not taking into account?
