altenator wiring ???'s

Ok my jeep tech guru friends and brothers.

I have an 88MJ that has a 91 2.5 using the 88TBI. Having trouble wiring the alternator. The plug in in the alternator but the wires have been cut going to the jeep.

The two wires coming off the altenator don't match the color of the 2 wires coming from the jeep.

My question is how do I figure out which wire needs to go to which wire?

Thanks,
Jack

Try this---
My diagram shows 3 wires Red-going to fuseable link Hot all time
Yellow-goes to Ing switch
Tan/White to plug turns toTan/green to volt -meter(instr cluster)

ok heres an update. I have more questions too.

I hooked up the wires. Green to Yellow and black/dark grey to tan/brown. And went up to Auto Zone to let them test the charging system

Hooked up like that and no charge. Switch the wires around still no charge.

The only way I could get it to charge was to hook the green to yellow. Then take the black/dark grey wire off the altenator and just ground it. That left me with the tan/brown wire off the jeep wiring harness up hooked. Set up that way the altenator was charging the battery, but then it wasn't regulating its self. I was drawing 15.64 volts.

Any ideas???

Thanks to everyone in advance.

Jack :)
