Gear Install Question

rws

NAXJA Forum User
Hello Experts: When installing new gears and doing backlash, pattern checks does any type of lube have to to be applied to the set-up bearings or is all the intial set-up done "dry"? Thanks

I use a squirt of ATF.

Light, and I like the smell.

Peppermint KY works as well.

Would appling oil or gear lube decrease the pinion bearing preload? It seems that any bearing that is oiled would turn easier.

no it won't change the preload,
