Does transmission fluid drain from radiator when stopped?

I'm going to install a transmission gauge and I'm wondering if the fluid in the lines drains back to the pan or am I in store for a flood?

Also which should I care most about, the exit temp or the return temp?

The lines will still have fluid, but shouldn't have pressure. I'd want to know the temperature of the fluid as it comes out of the transmission before it gets cooled. The hottest temp is what kills the fluid.

there will be fluid in the lines but it won't all come out if the pump isn't running

you want to see the temp of the fluid that is inside the tranny
