Ok so my XJ sat 4 months this summer... when i went to start it
there was NO SPARK i got mad and wacked the COIL with a wrench
and it fired up.

Now it has a pop pop stutter at 1300-2000 rpm's then pulls
threw it just fine... as long as the RPM's are above 2k it runs good.
So i drive in 3rd gear on the freeway ect ect and it runs great.
Ive always used 3rd gear as drive anyway since its got 3:55 gears
and bogs so bad in drive unless your hauling ass LOL

It sometime dies when i hit bumps going slow or just for no reason
at lights ect ect

Last night it wouldent start for 10min then kicked on.

Any ideas ? ? ?

Im a honda guy and if it was a honda i would change the
complete distributor out since its a internal coil.... and there
cheap... but im not so sure about the jeep.

PS: im a broke mo fo lol but i no were the junk yard is ! ! !

89 renix automatic 130k 6" lift 33's

Things i think... Coil-Distributor-Plug wires something with spark.

Thanks your XJ NOOBIE :)

*Check to see if you cracked the coil when you hit it with a wrench.
*Test coil for primary and secondary resistances
*Freshen up ALL YOUR GROUNDS.
*Check fuel pressure at the schrader valve on the fuel rail
*Test throttle position sensor
*Replace distributor cap / rotor if it's been a while

Add to the above: go under the hood and unplug every single connector you can find. Get some spray electrical contact cleaner (sold at industrial supply places, and probably still at Radio Shack as "tuner and control cleaner," douse the plug, and then plug/unplug/replug every one a couple of times. Renix systems are notoriously sensitive to bad connections.

That flat spot is sometimes a symptom of problems with the throttle position sensor.
