High Oil Pressure???

See,what had happened was

Any body ever had problems with high pressure. Normally when I'm driving around town it would be between 40-50 psi. (2000xj w/4.0L) yesterday it went off the guage scale and is still high even at idle. Can high pressure cause any problems? I was thinking of starting with the oil filter. Could the sending unit be going bad also?

Sounds like either the ground needs to be cleaned or the sending unit went bad. Start with the ground.

Sorry to interrupt... Hey Stallacrew, how you coming with the Skoda? Dare I say you should stroke it? LOL! You gonna go with a Renix, or HO?

And, back on topic, the sending unit would be the first thing to check in every case, if you ask me... At least a visual inspection to verify it is not dangling... LOL, I think you can test it, but its not expensive to just swap it, and you can always be very careful with the new one, and just return the part if it does not work.

If you'r ambitious, install a mechanical oil pressure gauge where the sending unit sits, take readings and compare to what you're seeing now, but most guys just swap them out. They are a VERY common failure on the Jeep 4.0 and a new one will fix the vast majority of suspect oil pressure readings.

The SKODA is a project for the summer time and I havent gotten around to working on it recently. I have two of them to do one with a ford escort engine and the other one will likely be a jeep engine of some sort.

Gotta X3 the sending unit, mine was broken when I got my 96 from my father, he never saw a reason to have it fixed I guess lol. I remember asking him after driving it a few days and getting the response "oh yeah thats been broken for years". They claim I'M the one who beat the crap out of it, but I fixed everything I broke. :p

Thanks guys. It was the sending unit. Picked one up this evening from Moron Zone, $38.00 ouch! I was just a little confused because the pressure was still going up and down with my rpms, it was just reading way too high on the guage. I just assumed if that went bad it would just stop working all together.
