there shouldn't be any issues, the current XRC8s are just Tmax winches and the old ones are from Mile Marker, all of which fit just fine inside the bumper, you just need to decide where to put the solenoid box.

Don't you have to turn the drum 90 degrees so it'll face up?

Should work just fine. I put a Tmax 9k in my ARB with no issues. Supposedly you can clock the housing to make it easier to reach the clutch lever, but I never bothered with it.
You will probably have to pull the bumper off to get the winch mounted in the bumper; the front crossmember is just enough in the way to block the opening.
