informed voters? i think not.

This is my country...

Wow some of those people are retarded.

This more goes to show what the priority of the media is. Focus on "catchy" stories or tell the issues and such... :(

Can't truly say that a great majority of voters are well informed about the candidates, I know I wasn't and I was actually paying some attention.

It's easy to blame the media for this, or just a lack of interest by voters. It is the candidate's responsibility to get their message out to the voters.
Obama just did a better PR job than McCain, but not by much based on the popular vote.

Speaking of voters, I see that once again, the wish of the people of CA expressed by Proposition 8 will be brought before the Court. Now that's two referendums, and two trips to court. At some point, the people will realize that their opinion on anything of importance really does not matter, and that, reguardless of the issue at hand, a vocal minority of people will always win if they can shout louder than anyone else.

Yep, some real slow folks there, kinda reminds me of some posts on this board.

Interesting video...Take a good unbiased view of it though and here's a couple of points: This is long, grab a cold one, maybe a sandwich too...

In the 1st half of the video it asked questions about Congressperson and Senators and then compared them to Governor Sarah Palin. Why? The campaign was Senator McCain running against Senator Obama.

I don't know what state that was filmed in, looked upper midwest or east coast due to the brick construction in the background. So if it wasn't filmed in MA, who cares if they know who Congressman Barney Frank is! He represents the people in southern Mass that elected him. Same goes for Congresswoman Pelosi, she represents San Francisco & Marin Counties in California, if you want her out, don't agree with her politics, move here, register and vote her out. Don't like Senator Reid, if you're not a register voter in Nevada there is nothing you can do about it.

I can't tell you each and every Congressperson or Senator, but I can tell you the folks who represent my State and my Congressional District, the rest, not my problem, I can't do anything about it anyhow.

Next: Questions regarding Governor Palin...did the RNC buy her clothes? yes. Is her daughter pregnant? yes.

Then showing the clip with the Russia info...She stated Russia can be seen from Alaska. True. Tina Fey, satirically stated "I can see Russia from my house". The question asked in the video, was spoken different then the subtitles and technically isn't AK her "home"?

The question about the ballots regarding President-elect Obama's 1st election was again written in subtitles different than was asked. The candidate removed ALL competion from his contest, not just those in his party as was asked.

Why do I bring these points up? In my job I need to be as accurate as possible with information or people can get hurt and/or killed. The devil is in the details. Also how you ask a question can control the direction the answer comes from.

Vice President elect Biden states that President elect Obama will be tested within the 1st x-amount of days in office. This is a very true statement. Let's see here's a few examples, 10% of the Nations manufacturing is in the auto industry, the world economy is collapsing, jobs in the U.S. are being lost, Al-Queada has released another video, mushrooms are growing on the international space station... Also things that can't be brought up here in this forum, but are written on yellow and pink paper.

Now the coal statement...I can't say because I do not know enough to make a statement. I use natural gas for heating and cooking and California uses hydro, nuclear, and natural gas for electrical energy production. I can say the statement shown is not long enough to grasp the context.

In conclusion, I made an observation about this past election to a co-worker a few days after the results came in. The church I attend and my social circle are very, very liberal. They believe I am a right winger. The folks I work with for the most part are very conservative and I'm a commie, (not true, I'm more socialist). All the liberal people were always speaking positive about candidate Obama. Their negativity was focused on Governor Sarah Palin, and NOT candiate McCain. The conservatives I spoke with were always focused on negatives about candidate Obama and did not ever speak to the positive of candidate McCain. Why?

Don't buy my last paragraph, it is my opinion & theory that if one was to retrace and review the posts on this board the negative posts about candidate Obama would outnumber the positive posts about candidate McCain by a vast number. With the dark cloud of economic uncertainty hovering above the heads of the American populace, wouldn't voters naturally gravitate towards a positive?

Something to think about.

I did, but you see there is this little thing called a "primary" and for some reason these "primaries" do not occur on the same day. This allows concepts like "momentum" to carry the less than desirable candidate to a victory such that the other candidates drop out of the race before everyone has even voted. Consequently I went from voting for a positive (never got to, there was only one choice by the time the priimary gets to me) Also of note is the fact that because I like to look at things objectively and refuse to align myself with any one party, I am not allowed to vote in the primaries, since that is only for people of a certain party to determine who their candidate will be.

Did I vote for McCain? Nope, I voted against Obama. I hated McCains stance on immigration, to the point that I would never actively support him. It came down to rights for me, I hold the second amendment very dear, and think that aborting a human life, just because it is still inside the mother, is still wrong. On one side of the ballot we had a guy who supports the so called "womans right to choose" (calling killing someone a choice is stupid) and thought that the fact that the sitting president had let the assault weapons ban expire was a "scandal". On the other side of the ballot we had a guy who had an almost identical stance on immigration, would appoint judges that would overturn Roe V Wade, Wouldn't turn tail and run in the middle east, and hasn't threatened to touch my rights to carry a weapon. Not really a choice. Not really anyone to vote for who could win, so I vote against the most popular candidate who is threatening to do away with my personal liberties by voting for the most likely candidate to defeat him.:patriot:

Boatwrench,
I think you're reading too far into it to justify bias/unbias. The point is that these people all voted for Obama and know nothing about his bad side (and there's plenty to be known) yet they all know about Palin and what a terrible person she is (in the eyes of the media).

It doesn't matter that you split hairs on whether AK can be called her state or her home, people still see a stupid Tina Fey impression. Hell, you could have held up a Fey/Palin picture comparison and probably half of these people would have gotten them mixed up.
While I agree that they shouldn't be "penalized" for not knowing senators/reps from other states, anyone who follows politics right now should know those three names or at least recognize them. Not knowing who controls congress right now is not acceptable. Saying that it must be the republicans just because there is a republican in the White House is not acceptable.

Weither or not yuor from a particular area you should pay attention to whom those people are, Barney Frank is responsible for the Fannie Mae morgage mess, Nazi Pelosi is the Speaker of the House and should be known.

Harry Reid was calling out how we lost the war and the surge has failed when it first happened.

They are important people that should be known about, and sadly the only thing people know are the bad things about the other party.

They didnt even know the quotes from their own canidate, and get quotes confused from a VP canidate and a television actress.

I think too many people take our voting process for granted and just vote for whom they are told.

Look at the girl with the Obama shirt on, she was obviously clueless on politics, but she was supporting a canidate knowning nothing about the people whom he surrounds himself with.

Many of you are acting as if this is the first time uninformed people have voted. There have always been a large percentage of people who are uninformed, from either side.

Yes, some people are politically retarded. Republicans, Democrats, Socialists, Communists, Fascists, Anarchist.

Having to deal with these people is part of being a part of a nation of more than 300 million people.

True, but how many times was the media almost completely biast and pushing their own agenda.

How many people just hear clips and based enough fact on it to make a completely uninformed decision?

And just because people have done it doenst make it right nor should we not poke fun at their stupidity, lol

My life would be incredibly boring if I wasnt able to fake fun of people and if people couldnt make fun of me, besides it builds character...

hahaha

Please clear something up for me Your state is in the late primary season? Consequently I went from voting for a positive (never got to, there was only one choice by the time the priimary gets to me)

Or you are registered undeclared or refuse to declare and therefore not eligible to vote in a candidate primary? Also of note is the fact that because I like to look at things objectively and refuse to align myself with any one party, I am not allowed to vote in the primaries, since that is only for people of a certain party to determine who their candidate will be.

Which is it?

I vote against the most popular candidate who is threatening to do away with my personal liberties by voting for the most likely candidate to defeat him.:patriot: Fair enough, and your right

We can disect and will view this election the way we chose. My main points are these:
1. There are just as many morons that voted for McCain, because of stupid TV sound bite commercials. They can rattle off all the Kenya or muslim connection, not a citizen, hussy mother, basketball playing hoop shots that President-elect Obama has been called about.
2. There were probably 40% of the population that no matter who was running was going to vote for the Republican candidate. There was probably another 40% of the population that no matter who was running was going to vote for the Democratic candidate. That leaves 20% undecided that need to be reached. Who did the best job?
3. The dems ran an anti-Governor Palin campaign, the street supporters were positive for President elect Obama. The republicans ran a positive McCain campaign but the street supporters were anti-Sen Obama.

In my opinion that was a huge difference.

:peace:

The point is that these people all voted for Obama and know nothing about his bad side (and there's plenty to be known) yet they all know about Palin and what a terrible person she is (in the eyes of the media).
The point also, which must have been lost in translation, is that there are also plenty of people who voted for McCain and know nothing about his positions either.

It doesn't matter that you split hairs on whether AK can be called her state or her home, people still see a stupid Tina Fey impression. Hell, you could have held up a Fey/Palin picture comparison and probably half of these people would have gotten them mixed up.
The point here is that if you want to wave a flag and show a demonstration at how stupid people are, then you must be accurate. My mother always told me " People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones." These folks were as dumb as a fence post, but they were the select few that were edited to drive a biased point home. They wouldn't have shown me because I knew some of the answers

While I agree that they shouldn't be "penalized" for not knowing senators/reps from other states, anyone and how many really do? with the hysterically low voter turnout I think it is a safe bet to say the average American knows more about Brittany than Representative Bill Young who follows politics right now should know those three names or at least recognize them. Really? Why? Do you know who the chairman of the house defense appropriations committee is? We are at war. Not knowing who controls congress right now is not acceptable. Lobbyists Saying that it must be the republicans just because there is a republican in the White House is not acceptable.

:peace:

Yellow journalism ring a bell?

How many people just hear clips and based enough fact on it to make a completely uninformed decision? Too many from all sides

And just because people have done it doenst make it right nor should we not poke fun at their stupidity, lol I try to avoid it on the forums, never know when one of you will have to give me a strap on the trail

Yellow journalism is different than pushing completely for a man whom very little is known and with no prior achievments(sp?) of any kind for president.

The media has been going into the tank, but this year out did everything they have ever done...

Its always fun to poke fun at people, and have it done in return, as long as its all in fun.

Esp when it comes to politics and religion, those should be kept in discussion and shouldnt be used against anyone.

I know there are anti-god people on here, but that wouldnt stop me from helping them if they needed it, even if they said I was a dumb a** for having my beleifs...

and I hope they would help me the same.

Please elaborate on why you think what we just witnessed is different than yellow journalism.

Its always fun to poke fun at people, and have it done in return, as long as its all in fun.

My response was tongue in cheek

and I hope they would help me the same. They would

"Yellow journalism, in short, is biased opinion masquerading as objective fact"
Thank you google, lol

I guess that works, I had always thought of Yellow Journalism as media only showing exciting, or negative stories because they sell more than positive stories.

No one wants to hear about good things, bad news sells kinda additude.

So I thought it was more of Yellow Journalism to the Extreme, but I stand corrected, lol

Was talking to a older retired co-worker yesterday. Worked for 50+ years at NASA, and has been working for free the past 5 years or so.

He said he went to Nevada to help people register to vote (democratic), and he said it was pretty scary how most of them were completely uninformed on their voting.

Personally I feel you should be required to do something to vote, but apparently that's un-democratic... forcing people to understand what they are voting for.
