hmmm it seems bigger then the D35 in my 86 and its built different too but the diff cover says dana so im imagining its a d35

Not a good indicator. My 8.25 has the rubber fill plug. I've also seen D35's with a pipe plug. JIM.

Anybody ever modify an 8.25 cover for a pipe plug? I'd feel more comfortable with something else besides rubber!

Is there a way to tell from the outside if the 8.25 is a 27 or 29 spline or if it's limited slip?

if you have a 93 its a 27 spline.
29 spline is mid 96 and up...
29 spline is mid 96 and up...

Actually, mine is a Dana 35(though my chrysler build sheets says 8.25) but I am casually keeping my eyes open for a 29 spline 8.25. I can spot an 8.25 easy enough but from there, are there markings that would identify it as a 29 spline if it is not mounted in the vehicle?
