231 in cab linkage question.

While trying to put my jeep in 4wd a couple of days ago the arm the you pull to engage 4wd came out of its socket.I have gotten it put back in but there is a hole that looks like either a cotter pin or possibly the spring is attached to the handle more near the top would go in. Any one have any experience with this situation???

Yeah i had it pop out on the transfer case side. IIRC the only thing that holds it in there is the poly/rubber bushing. Knock on wood, since then I have not had another instance of it popping out like that. When I needed it I rolled under and engaged it for a little while. This happend while I was in about 4 feet of snow and about 30 miles past BFE.

There's an "R" clip that holds the shifter in place. There isn't anywhere it could really go... It's probably under the shifter.
