T-case Question

I'm looking for info from someone experenced. I have 2 T-cases one is and amc 231 with the 21 spline input that has a sye and a heavy duty chain in it but my trans is newer and has a 23 spline input and the t case on it has a broken chain and a hole in it. Couldn't i just open them up and swap shafts (if the one in the busted case isnt damaged) to make my good case work in my jeep? please only reply if you know thank you.

i dont see why not. just use the shaft that works and make sure the SYE is on that case
