What could my xfer case take with it?

I have a 1989 XJ 4.0 242 transfer case and small budget lift. The other day driving home I was getting up to speed 45-55. When my Jeep began to shutter and vibe. Then the loud BANG of the rod connecting down to the transfer case letting loose which resulted in the left side of my transfer case splitting pulling the front driveshaft out(Pieces blowing out on the road). Now I have not had time to actually look into it but I know the front DS is hanging with that side of the xfer case. The rear shaft looks fine and the case still seems hooked up. I've been looking to buy a new Jeep but depended on this vehicle for work and would still like to.

What should I check out on my days off?
Thanks NAXJA.

replace the case obviously, check the d/s, u-joints and double cardan joint.

I would check the output seal on your tranny and pinion seals on both axles. if there was a jolt or anything to these they might leak.
