I search the forum for my issue but to no luck. I have a 99 4.0 xj and every once in awhile when I go to start it and it will instatly catch and die. It remind me of having the timing to advanced. Usually after this I'll have to crank it a bit and give it a little pedal for it to catch. Does anyone have any ideas of what the problem might be?

Have the battery load tested. Low voltage can reboot the engine computer causing hard starts and stalling. If it checks out OK, consider testing or replacing the Crank Position Sensor (CPS).
