Steering column, manual vs auto, is there a difference?

I got a used steering column for a steal out of a 5 spd. does anyone know if it is a direct fit for an auto?

As far as I know, if it's in the proper range of model year it should fit. The only exception I know of is Comanches with an A/T & col. shift, otherwise all XJs & MJs are floorshift. If yours is for your 88, I think they fit up to the early 90s. I know the one in my 95 is different than the one in my 87.

It should be, the only thing you will have is that extra release to be able to pull the key out of the ignition.

It may not have the hookup for the shift interlock cable.
