AW4 Clunking???

I have a 95 AW4 with about 160,000 on the ticker. I notice that if I have the shift selector in the (3) position when coming to a stop as the transmission goes to drop into what I believe would be 1st gear, it makes a very noticeable "clunk" if I have the selector in overdrive (D) it never makes the noise. Is this normal??

Not normal.

I was going to say your trans mount is toast, but since thats the only time it makes noise, I am at a loss....

If you want to hear a bad trans mount, come for a ride in my 87.....

I have the same problem with my '92. I'm at a loss. It only happens when shift lever is in third.

I also noticed if I took off with a heavy foot there is a bad driveline shimmy I took it to my mechanics and we took a look and it is indeed needing a Tranny mount. I'll post back when It gets finished and let you know if the downshift clunk goes away after the new mount.
