so i was driving to school today and noticed a blue cloud. thought it was just the sea foam i put in there yesterday. after i get home i pop the hood to take a look at my make shift pcv set up. and there is oil every wear. i noticed the dip stick was not in all the way. would this allow oil to come out?

i may not have put it in all the way then i checked it yesterday.

Makeshift PCV? Excess crankcase pressure could be blowing out your dipstick and oil. Give us some info on your PCV mods.

I installed a grommet and a standard pcv valve on my 89, it did not vent properly, It spewed oil. Had to put stock back on

Yeah, PCV valve on a 4.0L is a bad thing. Just clean up the CCV setup that came stock and you'll be fine. When I bought my 88 the PO put a PCV valve in, didn't figure that out until the knocking started.

well by the makeshift pcv i meant the lack of its just 2 holes on the valve cover right now.

but i put the dipstick back in and there seems to be no oil leaking so i think that was it.

4.0's do NOT use pcv valves all they need is a simple peice of pvc pipe

yes i am aware of this. the original ccv pipes have cracked and the grommets rotted so there is nothing on there right now. so its just open to the air.
