engine swap

You should have no problems with the swap. You might/not have the temp gauge sender(only for the cluster gauge, the cts in the t-stat housing sends the ecu the temp in the <96 and the ecu and gauge the temp in the later 96+) in the back of your 96 head. The 98 definitely doesn't have the port and the early 96's do--one reason to maybe keep the 96 head and put it on the 98 block. I'm sure there's a way around not having the port, but having the sensor--maybe it's not so hard to tap a head in the same spot or tapping another port in the t-stat housing.

When I put the 98 motor in my 89 jeep I just rerouted the sensor to a T I put on the thermostat housing. it is not worth swaping the heads just for that sensor if you dont have to for another reason.
