The race was a blast! We only made it 335 miles before we timed out. We blew up a t-case at mile 10...yes 10 miles from the start. We got that changed out pretty quick, but it put us way behind the 8 ball time wise to make all the pits before they closed. About a hundred miles in, we lost the clutch completely. That was no big deal except for getting unstuck in the silt. If you've never been in Nevada silt, you have NO idea what silt is. It's like hitting a patch of three-foot deep baby powder, a quarter mile long at 60 MPH. You can't even see the dash in front of you!! Oh, and you're also trying to stay in the ruts left by trophy trucks and their 39" tires.
Anyway, what took us out at RM335, we were actually leading our class when the distributor hold down broke, and the distributor shaft siezed in the housing. Took about an hour to get it fixed and running again, but we timed out only 10 miles from the next check point we had to make.
We were some tired pups after the race...our entire crew was up Fri at 6am, got off the line around 1pm, raced all day and night to finally put the jeep on the trailer at 7am Saturday. Then we drove to Reno, had some dinner, went to the after race party deal, and finally went to bed around 8pm.
Everyone had a blast, and we'd do it again in a heartbeat.
