np231 temp?

Rebuilt an NP231 last weekend. All new parts except shafts, gears and one fork. AW4 is running about 175deg. and NP231 is running about 145deg. Does this sound like a good number? I didn't measure the t-case before the rebuild to get a base line. IR gun on the case is 120deg and on the drain plug I get the 145. This is after 1hr on the freeway.

sounds fine. You get a lot of heat conduction from the tranny, aside from the fact that freeways are big heatsinks. I would not expect it to be running any cooler than that.

to be honest I have never really cared how hot my tcase was. It doesnt leak and it runs fine.

I kind of thought the same thing. Just needed a second opinion. How do you like your stroker motor?
