AW4 Trans mods

Ok, i have a 1989 with an AW4 trans. My engine recently developed rod knock so im just going to go through and rebuild everything (of course i cant leave it stock what fun would that be) Is there any shit kits out there for this trans to make it shift harder? What about torque converters? i was also thinking about wiring it up so that i control the gears (kind of like a rachet shifter) i remember seeing a website that showed which wires controlled each solenoid but i cant find it any more. Any links, tips, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

id love it if it could shift at higher rpm like it does when its cold out. those 5500 rpm shifts really get the most out of the cam im running, but it wont do that during summer.
also at 55 mph it wont kick down to 2nd unless i put it in 3rd first

sorry, cant find the wiring diagrams, allthough pirate4x4 has a good tech section that includes the wire diagrams, should you be feeling frisky!
 
88rockxj, i think thats the website i was thinkin of, thanks man. But nobody makes a good old shift kit for this trans? i would really like the trans to hit as hard as my 2004 dodge ram with a cummins turbo diesel :firedevil

From what I've read, the AW4 is a common transmision in a lot of cars. Level 10 should have what you are looking for if anyone does.....

level10 built a trans for my buddies 700whp 05 dodge cummins diesel. very nice work, good service, and quick turn around. plus its guaranteed to handle up to 1000hp :D
 
I have my tranny guy rebuilding my AW4 right now and he will be doing some mods to the valve body to firm up the shifts. Mostly just changing out some springs to stiffer ones or adding shims to them. I did not wnat him to do any unreversable valve body mods but he said that I should be very happy with the shifts. I'm having The Converter Shop(TCS Convrters) in Lake Havasu,AZ building me a heavy duty converter for $300. In my opinion they are the only one to get a converter from, they will build anything you want and stand behind it.
 
what about the ole zip tie mod?
