ZJ rear axle on a XJ?

I know of the ZJ brake swap, but can you swap the whole axle assembly, I want to convert the rear to disc brakes. I have access to one and was thinking about throwing the whole thing in there to avoid modifying anything. Are the widths different?

There really isn't any point to switch to a ZJ rear axle. The D35 is useless and undesirable axle, and the D44's that came on the ZJ's were aluminum housings, that were really weak.

Plus the fact that the XJ is a leaf spring set up in the rear, and the ZJ is coils, thus you would have to cut off all the brackets and weld on spring perches which would probably be more work than doing the disk brake swap.

i completly forgot that ZJ's have coils in the rear, that would be way to much work. I think i'm just going to swap the brakes only.
