steering box cleaner,..

I am in the process of engine removal and the ole XJ is inoperative and was wondering what would be a good cleaning solvent to get the gunk out of my steering box -I am under the impression that something like Solvent Green could be applied-Also what would be a good rust remover other than that dangeroous and toxic POR that I can soak some parts -TIA

I don't have an answer to your question, but make sure whatever you use to clean it will not harm the rubber seals.

If it were me instead of trying to use a solvent to clean the inside real good and risk damaging the seals I'd either get the parts needed to strip it down and rebuild it or just get a new one for $170.
