Pacesetter Headers for an '87?

aI saw on a recent post that the EGR valve line doesn't directly fit in the spot on the Pacesetter header. IM in your boat, I have an 87 Laredo and im not sure if theres another one out therte besides Pacesetter.

Interesting. I'm almost tempted to have an exhaust shop custom build some...if that's even possible with your average shop.

Forgot to mention this earlier -The down pipe slips onto the header, there is no flange. They expect that thing to stay up with two clamps. Mine came off 3 times before i ended up tacking the downpipe to the header. And you also have to re-wire your 02 sensor because they relocate it. Not a big problem, but one more thing you need to do.

Clifford Performance makes one...It's really well made but it is $100 or so more than the pacesetter. I've been running the clifford for about a year and I like it. I've known several people that had pacesetters and they weren't too happy with them. Here's a link

you'll probably want the y-pipe too, unless you're running dual exhaust

been in the same boat looking for someone who makes a quality replacement piece. Really only found the chimo tin can replacement and the quality sucks, flange not remotely flat and welds look like chimo sweat shop. I have eliminated my EGR also......... its my .000000153 weight reduction

no real comment on the pacesetter nor the other one. do think for that kind of cash having to manufacture your parts to fit is quite lame.

no flange???? pictures it with flange. For that much cash you get some clamps to hold it together??? totally lame

about the clifford............... how does your smog work since you are only tapped into 3 banks???? and not 6??

PornstaR: I've only had the header for a year, so it's only been inspected once..But it passed emissions here in PA and the guy who does the inspections doesn't cut me any breaks. I'm not sure how strict they are with emissions and stuff in WA, but I'm pretty sure you'd be ok.

This pic is on their page...... I know its the wrangler one but figured it would have the same hardware.

Um sorry for the q but isnt that for a wrangler? YJ type not XJ type? sorry if they are the same I am not too familiar with the 4.0 headers other than the bone stock ones.

Who is your question directed to??? YJ is wrangeler XJ is cherokee TJ is wrangler also. I do know that the header I posted is for the wrangler but figured it would come with roughly the same hardware in the cherokee model.

for what its worth i have been running the pacesetter on my 87 4.0 for over a year now with no problems my egr didnt line up either but if you buy a small map gas torch you can heat it up like i did and bend it to make it fit and where the down pipes slips onto the header i've had no probs either no leaks or any thing i jump at the dunes in florence and i wheel it pretty hard im happy with it and for the price of $200 it was worth the money to me:passgas:

I just installed my pacesetter header and the fit and finish is terrible. The header didnt fit into the downpipe, the downpipe was terribly misshapen, and to top it off, they sell headers with an EGR port that must be plugged for Jeeps that don't have EGR. WHY? Basicly, I had to redo my entire exhaust system to get the downpipe to work, it made everything else way out of wack. If I had to do it over again, I would pass up Pacesetter and go with somethine else.

I does sound sweet tho! :)

For those of you that have PaceSetters installed, are any of them the ArmorCoat ones (hi-temp ceramic coated, supposedly)?? I have an '87 with another cracked stock manifold, and was thinking about the ArmorCoat'ed PaceSetter. Might the fit/finish be any different on these as opposed to the black painted ones? Probably not, but thought I'd ask.

Sure wish I could find someplace that had the Doug Thorley header that fits the '87 still in stock. I've heard great things about those...*sigh*
