'89 XJ tie-rod into 2000?

i bent my tie rod at big dogs. can i use one from an '89 as a direct swap-in?

I am pretty sure there are slight differences accross those years, and it might depend on what exactly you are swapping. I think in 89 the tierod is ~ 1.5 in. shorter, but the tierod ends were longer. Past 92 the tierod got longer, the ends a little beefier, but shorter threads. So, a shorter shaft, and shorter ends = maybe no worky. Double check when I get home.
 
You can swap the entire tie rod over, yes.

Or you can buy a new one, since that 89 one is probably pretty worn out, and keep the 89 for a trail spare.
