I have an 88 Comanche with a 4.0l and ba10/5. The engine shutters in every gear between 2000 and 2500 rpms only. What might be causing this?

Throttle position sensor - had the same problem on my 88XJ/4.0L/BA-10.

The TPS is a variable-resistance sensor using a carbon track - up around "cruise" RPM (usually 2000-2500 or so...) the carbon gets compacted and you get a "flat spot" where the sensor has difficulty reading. I replaced mine, and the problem went away entirely.
