Engine Question

I have never dealt with a motor like the XJ. My question is: Is the Crank and cam shaft all located in the block or is it crank in block cam in head. I need a new block and I think it would be cheaper to go for a long block then a whole new engine because as far as I know the head s fine.

Overhead valve, cam in block. The XJ never got an OHC engine from the factory - and they were all flat-tappet engines as well (no roller tappets. Some of us are working on that...)

Ok kool. Then I could just get a new long block that already has the timing set and just bolt the head on to it. Thanks.

A full roller valvetrain would be so great!

Free up some torque at the wheels!
