led tailights

one of my tailights burnt out and I was lookin at converting to LED, do you have to replace your flasher or anything else, read that you cannot just change bulbs. thanks.

Are you replaceing the whole housing or just putting in led bulbs in the OEM taillight boxes?

If you are just replacing the tail or brake lights then you don't need an upgraded flasher relay but if you are replacing the turn signal bulbs with LEDs your flashers will be very fast unless your get a heavy duty flasher relay.

You will actually need a lighter duty relay to use the led lights, otherwise it will flash fast like you have a burned out bulb. LED lights are a very low draw compared to a standard bulb. The heavy duty relay will make it flash even faster since they are designed to flash even more bulbs, like when towing a trailer. It keeps them flashing at the normal pace instead of extra fast.

You can also buy load resistors, but the flasher "downgrade" is the easiest way to do it.

BTW, those LED bulbs... the ones that replace the normal filiment bulb... they suck! Nowhere NEAR the light output of the normal bulbs.
