Does the NSS hold tranny fluid

Since I was already under the heep yanking the starter I decided to go ahead and clean the NSS, but it shattered during removal. I've got it bypassed at the plug right now and I will probably go to the local AMC Jeep yard tomorrow and buy another one, but I'm wondering if it acts as a seal for fluid. Will it leak without the NSS in place?

I don't think so, but I read somewhere that fluid had to be drained to change it so I'm not 100%
