Wassup South Jersey!

Anyone going up from South Jersey (Vineland, Brigantine, Atco, Ocean City, Mays Landing, Toms River, even Cape May)??
I don't wanna trailer the highways alone!

I probably won't be going then. I don't wanna drive 5 hours with just a trailer & my XJ as company. I'm not looking for a passenger or to ride shotgun. I simply want to know that there's someone watching my butt or up in front of me. Willing to meet up with someone from Philly area ...

Hit up Magoo on here (or the NAC forum), he is coming up from that way. He doesn't get on here much, he is thrashing on his MJ trying to get it done.

Your message hasn't been up very long, give it time, I am sure more folks will respond.

It's been 3 days since I asked & I can't believe that with all these people going, there's no one from this area (or Philly) going to NAC Fest to run tailgunner for a li'l ol' South Jersey girl! Bummer. Is it because my name is black? I ain't doing this on the roads alone so I guess that's it for my preparations.

Sux. :(

Don't let a lonely trail ride keep ya, its a helluva good time, I do the trailer alone thing all the time from Philly, it has nothing to do with your name in black. Just not that many people around you it seems, try and leave Weds and I'll meet up with you.

Don't want to sound like a wuss (cause I'm not), but if I run into any issues on the road, as a female I'd just feel better if there was someone with me, if only to watch my back if I have to go for help or something. I dunno ... it's different driving there by myself (which I've done), than to run a trailer with a vehicle on it.

(And I was just kidding about the name thing ... I know better :) )
The job won't allow me an extra day. I have 2 new Supervisors (out of 3. I'm the boss - 4th person) & it's going to be tough enuff leaving them to run things by themselves for so many days. Worth a shot, but I doubt it'll happen ... I already have to do some major sucking up (to the bigger bosses) to get off in the summertime. The Casino industry isn't very accommodating this time of year ...
I really do appreciate the gesture. Will let you know how it goes.

What way were you planning on driving up?

I'm not as far south as you, but for what it's worth I'll probably be leaving Friday afternoon after work. I take I-78 all the way out so I could meet anywhere along/near there.

Is the XJ streetable? Can you just drive it up instead of trailering it? Trailering a vehicle up does introduce another whole new set of problems. I'll be trailering my rig up this year, but typically drive it to the trails. If your worried about breakage at RC, I wouldn't sweat it. I am sure we have enough resources (spare parts/knowledge) within our group to get you back together so you can confidently drive it home. When someone breaks in our group it typically becomes a community effort to get them fixed/rolling again.

Heh...yeah. I just spent last weekend down in Harlan, KY and we had a guy break a steering knuckle off, over 3 miles away and 2000 feet elevation change from the campsite/trailer.

We drove all the way back, completely took apart my friend's front axle, put all the parts in a box, drove the parts back up the mountain, re-assembled the other guy's front axle, drove it back down the mountain, and put everything back again. Took almost 9 hours total, we got back to camp at 3 AM, and had to leave a 8 AM the next morning to drive 12 hours home.

Yeah it's a bitch at the time, but that's wheelin. And even while we were doing it I was having a great time just being out in the woods and solving problems to get the rig back home. That's just one example of the stuff I've done over the years to get rigs back to where they need to be.

If you want, I can trade cell phone numbers, and if you run into any problems trailering, there's probably a way to fix it. What kind of trailer (axles, specifically) and tow rig will you be running?

The offer of assistance has me feeling better already, Andy, Thanks loads. Though not ideal with 32" Swampers & stock gears, my Jeep is very streetable. I am a little concerned about rock-wheeling then driving my (unlocked) turdy-five if I still have it since I planned to challenge the XJ more this year. The Blu/blk's at last year's B4W OHV have me thirsting for more. But the poor XJ really complained on the trip up the last time I drove it up that way (even without the Swampers. I confess we were following a brand new V8, so my XJ was no match for it, but nevertheless ...) If full trailer, it'd be a U-Hauler pulled by an '02 5.9L Durango. But maybe I'll dolly it. That'll be easier than hauling a trailer for the first time by myself, & I've done the dolly thing before.

Thanx, I'll take you up on that ... I would hit I78 along the way, but it'd be a ways out - I think long after that horrible Skuylkill Exp'way. But I planned to leave on Thursday to give myself plenty of time so I don't miss any of the fun. :rof:

I might be going I'll find out this week if I have off from work ...

Im in Toms River.

No trailer just me my XJ and alot of gas money ...

:wave1: magoo here...leaving Wall maybe Thurs nite or Fri morning. Doing the 78 deal same as Vetteboy. e-mail me if you wanna follow along, [email protected] like Andy said I'm not on here much, tryin' to get my junk done ya know.:peace:

okaay! I'd given up on the thread. Gonna check back in tomorrow & add replies, time for bed right now. This is starting to look promising ... so far, thank guys!

Okay all, I will definitely be leaving Thursday afternoon (providing all is well with the XJ). I want to avoid Philly rush hour traffic and leave plenty of daylight for me to get lost! Wanna get there in time to secure accommodations & set up quarters.

Let's see now ... STROKER, Wed is a bit early for me, but I'll PM you if it looks possible. vetteboy, magoo, I'll PM you my phone number; magoo you might catch up to me on the road!!
OverlandXJ, Friday's a little too late for me (if everything goes as planned), but look me up in Rausch!

All, mine will be the pretty red XJ with 32's, TJ flares & low, low COG :D . Some will be surprised ... no double-takes or finger-pointing, please, LOL.
Thanks for all the replies & promise me you will all come up & introduce yourselves!
