Yes, its threaded on, with the normal lefty loosey. There may be a locknut under the knob that you need to loosen. As I recall it had two flats on it for getting it with a wrench.

On my '98, I use a small pocket knife and pop off the shift pattern cover plate. Theres a nut underneath there that holds the shifter knob on.....
