FYI, for those of you who were involved with the surrvey earlier this year you should have already received this. For those who have not I thought you might like an update.

I will let you know once the "spring" survey is available or better yet you can contact the office and make sure you are on the list of receipients. It would be well worth your while providing your input into this survey so that the committee has as much input as possible on how they use our lands.

Below if the most recent update:

Thank you for your continued interest in Reiter Foothills Recreation Planning!
On behalf of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), I would like to take this
opportunity to thank you again for your attendance and participation in the Reiter Foothills
Recreation Planning Kick-off meeting. Your ideas and comments are highly valued and were
a main point of discussion during our last Recreation Planning Committee meeting.
The Recreation Planning Committee has been carefully selected to represent a wide variety
of interests, including but not limited to: equestrians,4x4 use, motorcycle use, ATV use,
hiking, mountain biking, hunting, fishing, camping, picnicking, conservation, local cities, as
well as individuals who work with the Washington State Parks and Snohomish County Parks.
The DNR has hired an individual from the private sector to facilitate the Recreation Planning
Committee meetings. The meeting facilitator is very important to provide fair and effective
meeting formats and ensure that all stakeholder interests are heard.
The Committee had a successful first meeting in the beginning of April, during which their
role in the planning process and expectations for final outcome were formulated. At the
second meeting, the Committee focused on reviewing the ideas and comments provided
during the February public meeting, as well as discussing future recreation trends within the
Reiter Foothills. The Recreation Planning Committee will be conducting a field trip in May
to visit sites around the Reiter Foothills that demonstrate issues of consideration such as
recreational successes, areas needing improvements, resource protection, various forest
habitats, and other points of interest for the planning process.
Over the next couple of months, the Recreation Planning Committee will continue to discuss
recreation trends and patterns in the forest. Region scientists and other specialists will visit
the committee meetings to describe where the land is most suitable for recreation from a
biological and natural resource systems perspective. To better understand the needs of the
recreating public, DNR will be conducting a recreation user survey this spring. As a member
of this email contact list you will be sent a copy of the survey. The committee will review all
of the information described above, as well as the results of the user survey to develop
recreation management recommendations that DNR will use to create a ten year
comprehensive recreation plan for the Reiter Foothills.
Included with this letter, you will find.a srmrmary of your ideas and comments from the kick
off meeting. We are excited to share this information with you, and hope that this serves you
well as the first step in keeping you informed about our progress.
Thank you again for your participation and interest in the future recreational management of
the Reiter Foothills Recreation Planning Area. We look forward to continuing this plan in a
way that our recreational constituency will appreciate. Please feel free to contact me at
(360) 854-2830 or email me at [email protected]
