Is this an overhead console?

What is this thing, is it for an overhead console? This is in an 89 xj Laredo and i thought they didnt come out with the overhead console until 90. It was like this when i bought it and i have no idea what it is for.

Thats just a keyless entry reciever. The console looks like this...

Ok thanks, is it missing something or is it supposed to be just a bare computer chip.

It's missing the smoked plastic cover.

the long overhead console is cool...it holds more water than the keyless entry one...lol
