XJ Tube Fenders

After searching for a couple of days (off and on) here and google, I haven't been able to find anything on tube fendered XJ's. Can I presume this is either not a good idea or just no one has done it or discussed it? I wanted to explore other options to the Bushwacker flares or Rusty's flexable fender flares.
I was thinking of doing something like theCJ/YJ/TJ guys do and fab tubing for an extended fender flare instead of the Bushwackers. I'm hoping (if the project is even feasable) that this will make the local constabulary happy with the wider tires as well as help prevent some of the sheet metal damage XJ are known to attract front and rear.

there is a thread on here with a really sweet set of them, I mean they look phenomenal. But I lost my bookmark list, so keep searching.

BTW, He did it by fabbing a plate to wrap around the fender and built on that.

Here you go. That is just one thread, there was a thread a few weeks ago done by a guy named Frank from Colorado I believe, his jeep is in the ROTM thread in the pictures showcase.
