I have a squeak in the front end of my XJ that sounds like a giant cricket. Everything is fine except for the squeak. When I get above 15 mph and drive around town, I get the squeak. When I get below 15 mph, it goes away. Also, after I drive a couple miles, it goes away. But after I park it and it cools off, it will do it again. This is the only time it does it. It sounds either rotational or like something is loose and rubbing. The steering feels tight, and there is no wobble in the steering wheel.
I had a a problem I posted about before and never figured out what it was. Here is that post...
Has anyone else had something that was causing a squeak like this before, ie. front hub assembly, axle stuff, front driveshaft? I am pretty concerned about this since I have a 1 1/2 hour trip tomorrow and another one this Saturday. I don't want it to fail on the highway towing a trailer . TIA for taking the time to help me out!!!

Would a bad axle ujoint make a bad rumbling noise when going down the highway at speeds greater than 45 mph, but not when going under 45 mph?
I was removing the TC yesterday and while I was trying to get the bolts out for the front DS, I noticed the inner axle movingquite a bit and the outer part of the axle was not. So I know the ujoint is bad, I was just hoping it was causing my intermittent rumbling at speeds greater than 45. I suspected the hub, but at the price of them, I was hoping t was caused by something less expensive.
Forgot to mention, it is not a constant rumbling and nothig I do can create the noise or make it go away on demand.
The tires are fine.
