Low pinon waggy set up

Anyone running a waggy d44 can you post pictures of what your pinon angle looks like if you did not adjust the pinion angle but just set it so that you are running a good castor angle? Also after doing this would you suggest setting it so that you roll the pinon angle up and have to rotate the C's to reset caster? I am about to start putting together my axle and would just like some personal waggy runners advice thanks in advance!! Oh I am running 33's bfg muds, maybe 35's one day with about 8.5" of lift, these axles have warm locking hubs, and run everything from light scenic wheeling to harder rock crawling.

So your running 33s with 8.5'' of lift. Alright....

Then your putting a lot of effort into swapping in a lp Dana 44. Alright....

Why put all that effort into an axle, and not take the couple hours it takes to rotate the inner Cs? Your driveshaft angle is going to suck unless you rotate them.

BTW, keep your Dana 30. Its probably stronger then the 44 your going to be building. :stirs pot:

I already picked up the axles they came geared 4:10's and locked for a killer deal as well as set up for high steer. The time is not a problem to turn the c's that was why I was asking if I should roll the pinion up. Why would you say that the 44's aren't as strong as a 30, makes no sense to me. As for pictures I have plenty but not really sure how to post them up on the form.

people who say a waggy 44 isn't stronger then a hp 30 is bs. yes the u-joint may be the same size, but the carrier is a lot stronger. you may loose some strength due to the fact its an LP. but i know plenty of people running locked 38s on a waggy 44. try that with a d30

I did like you stated. I found the correct castor angle and ran with that. The pinion angle wasn't very far off, so I left it alone. I followed the JP magazine article below:

http://www.jpmagazine.com/techarticles/drivetrain/axletech/154_0706_junkyard_dana_44_axle/index.html

It gave me almost an inch of lift due to the thicker tubes and the height of the spring perch mounting plates. Note how they mount the drivers side spring plate and part of the bridge onto the axle. They use some flat metal and drilled and tapped two bolts to the cast housing near the old spring perch as well as welded it to the tube. It worked great and seems very strong.

I had about 6" of lift and I didn't rotate the C's on mine. My pinion angle was decent.

hey thanks everyone for the feed back! I think that I will just set it up so that the castor is set nicely and then if the pinion is killing me I can play with it through the long arms and rotate the c's then if I have to. As far as posting pictures go I'm lazy and busy with finals I will post some up when I'm on 44's how about that. If you need to see it before then or want to post for me ha! pm your email.

Oh another thing I have to replace the ball joint on one side should I wait to get it all mounted under the rig before doing this to see if I should use those offest joints, or just replace the one side with normal joints?

Also when running the TNT truss set up with an above axle pan hard mount will the rusty's adjustable panhard I have now work or do I need a new one, possibly shorter?

Also will the RK droppitman I run work? I read a few places that people where having to replace the pitman's with waggy ones?

i have an 8" lift with a waggy axle and it is a great set up..it does have slight vibes when in 4wd on the road but it does great off road....44 has a stonger carrier and bigger ring gear..and a popular breakage in a dana30 is the ring gear. yoU also get a stonger houseing while your at it

spec for spec a LP 44 is STRONGER than a HP 30, then if you get upgraded shafts you can be just about as strong as a dana 60 with alot less weight..

pornstar tries to know alot but doesnt seem to add any useful info...

Yeah I had done a bit of research before finding these waggy 44's so I wasn't too worried about it to each their own I guess even when hard numbers are involved. But since you are running an 8" as well did you just set your axle up according to castor?

Also still wondering any idea or opinion if my adjustable track bar will fit with an above axle mount? And do I have to run a waggy pitman arm?

Again thanks for all the input everyone very helpful
