Air Intake

I've been looking and deciding if I want to get a new air intake. So, I was looking around at some websites and found one made by aFe. Apparently, it's supposed to give you an extra 50hp and 100ft/lbs. of torque along with better fuel economy. I can imagine it'd only be a small fraction of that though once it gets to the wheels.

Do you guys suggest any other air intake kits that are better?

Here's a link to it:

there is no way that a cold air intake will give you anywhere near that kind of power increase. you'd make that maybe with a blower/turbo. You'll be looking at maybe 5 hp/tq when you get rid of your airbox. That seems to be the avg.

Maybe if you are running the same filter that your XJ left the factory with 8 to 9 years ago which is having the effect of a chunk of cardboard for a filter, yes it may be worth a few ponies.

Yeah, that sounds like false adertising to me. I would expect 5-6 HP. It is anice looking kit though.

Whats the deal with air intakes? What am I missing here?

We buy jeeps, and then spend large amounts trying to out off-road everyone. Heavy-duty, end of the world durable, last a lifetime gear, trying to make these things bulletproof. Then guys run out and buy boy-racer intakes that wouldnt hold up to a heavy rainshower. All in the name of free horsepower to out stoplight drag race the ricers.

Get a good severe-duty filter like Donaldson with a vacume guage and be done with it. Bulletproof filtering, severe environment, last a lifetime, commercial fleet tested. You want a boulevard cruiser get a honda, you want a drag racer get a mustang, you want heavy-duty, off-road, bulletproof reliability, build it right.

or just buy a K&N cone filter and run the intake into the cab where you don't have to worry about raining in there.

dude i got these magic beans for sale...............

and of course your diesel friends say go with AFE and your honda buddies will say go with AEM. dirka dirka

i understand your rank title now...

but you dont make any sense, nothing you just said has to do with tech info on the intakes.

well pin a rose on your nose!!!! a cookie for the boy in the back. I assure it does make quite sense........... AFE builds and sells mostly in the domestic market group. Hense the reasoning behind "the diesel buddies". AEM builds and sells mostly in the import market hense the reason for the honda guys to say "go with AEM". Oh maybe if i put a couple of "yo yo yos" and "werd" in there it could be more understandable. WOW another reason for not renewing my membership at NAXJA

The tech is in itself. Its a CAI no matter how you look at it. This brand and that brand 50hp increase???? They all do the same and that is take outside of engine bay air "colder denser air" and makes for "better running" rig. Nuff said??? Brand dosent really matter other than fittment per selection of rig, just part of the "cool" factor.............. or maybe "coo" in the cuban entry route

+50hp and +100torque?

I'm just as guilty as the next guy but i wish people would proof read more of their own writing.

I think +5hp and +10torque is within reason.
