Had a shop replace trans. When I got the xj back road noise was louder than I remember (4 years of sitting W/no trans) one day I started to investagate found the transfercase was rubbing where the output for the font driveline. Driveline also looks to be rubbing as well or real close. I called the shop to come pick up the Jeep and fix their mistake. They told me the crossmember was bent, so they shimmed x-member with washers.
I replaced the x-member with a new (used) and still have the same problem. I'm going to need to re-shim but I need answers. How much clearence does a stock drivetrain have between the front driveline and tub? Can the transfercase be installed wrong? (other than backwards) but rotated slightly? Any help or ideas are appreciated.
