Hi-Lift under rear seat?

I've heard it is possible to fit a 48" Hi-Lift under the rear seat. I just bought a 48" yesterday and I tried putting it under the rear seat but it won't go all of the way down. It's almost too long so I had to fold the end piece down (the part that you can fold down to use the Hi-Lift as a clamp)

I was wondering maybe about taking the base plate off since it is held on by the pin. But I am not sure, let me see what you have done. I think I heard about it being able to fit under the reat seat on this forum actually.

Take the base off and it will fit. I can get a pic if you want.
