Motor mount for bump stop?

I unwillingly joined the club of broken motor mount bolts. Now the old mount is in pretty good shape and one of my rear bump stops are shot. I'm thinking of taking off the top plate, making a mounting plate and use it for a rear bump stop.

I'm just wondering if anyone tried this or know of a cheap solution for a rear bump stop.

Also I can't find the torque spec for the mounting bracket that attaches to the frame rail.

Until it's tight?

It's not a major motor or drivetrain compoenent so a torque value for a bumpstop isn't something to really be worried about. Just don't torque it until the bolt snaps.

I should have specified, the mounting bracket for the motor mount that attaches to the frame rail. I had to remove it to drill out the bolt in the block.

Hallo. I produced rearbumpstops bymyself. After several tests with all kinds of rubber, I find out that the best way is to use several layers of different rubber. I welded a pair of pipes on the oem strips and a new steel strip for the rubber. A layer of soft foamrubber and a layer of hard rubber are doing the job right. I think that the rubber of a motormount is too hard.:wave1:

Good info. I will tuck that away for future use.

another great bumpstop is the cone-shaped insulator from a front strut on most newer cars. If you've got an undercar specialist in your town, you can probably find a ton of them in the garbage for nothing, but they are only a few bucks new!

The Up Country OEM rear snubbers are 4.1"

They're like $8...and work great.

Thats what I have on all 5 XJ's and on the trail rigs I made some adjustable lower pads to fine tune the bumpstops.

Quadratec has them, thats where i get mine. Sorry I don't have the number off hand and thier website stinks. It should be listed in the suspension parts.
