antenna mast removal

hey just wanted to know if it is possible to remove the antenna mast by unscrewing it from the top of the fender,and screw on a new one,or do i have to remove the fender and change everything? its a 85 xj non power antenna.thanks, searched but no clear answer

iirc, you should be able to undo a few bolts on the inner wheel well guard (plastic thing) and reach up to the mount with a wrench. with that, swapping it out should be no problem

I know on most you can unscrew the mast at the bottom, not sure if the threads are universal though for the new one. You can try it at the junk yard so you dont break yours.

The mast will unscrew from the top. The mount has to removed from under the fender. Remove the inner fender liner and loosen the nut on top of the mount. It will drop out. Then you need to remove the kick panel on the passenger side, unplug the co-ax and push the cable and plug through to the inner fender. The whole thing will come out then. The mount/cable/plug are all one piece.
