What year Transfer case?

I need a new transfer case for my 98 xj. Can someone tell me what years are compatible? I have searched and it seems that the plug may be different but I can not get a difinitive answer. Thanks

1997-2001 are the proper donors for your 1998. Save yourself any extra trouble and make sure the transmission of the donor also matches the one in your 1998.

trans dont matter, but 96-01 will work with his current rear driveshaft aor he could get one from a 91-95 and use the driveshaft out of that
