ignition coil upgrade

i have a brand new eccel super stock universal coil and was woundering if i can drop it in to my xj. there is 2 clips attatched to the stock coil and no clips on the aftermarket just 2 posts. has anyone done this ? do i cut the wires and crimp them, then bolt them on ? thanks

I'd make sure the ohms are about the same as the stock coil or your likely to overheat the ignition module.
If you have a later model XJ and the coil is fired from the PCM, I'd make darned sure the ohms match.
My question is why? The stock coil is plenty good enough, it's unlikely to be an improvement.
Many of the universal type coils require a ballast resistor.
