How to measure lift

I need to install adjustable coil spacers to level out my 90 XJ. How do I measure the rear and front lift to see what I need to adjust the spacer to?

Fenders have been cut so they are not stock.

This may be a dumb question, but if you're installing "adjustable" spacers, why don't you just "adjust" them until the vehicle is level?

Sorry, I did a search and nothing came up. I will look closely at the FAQs. You have to unload the springs every time you adjust them. Would like to do this just once. Coil compressors are a pain without an air ratchet.
