i was looking to replace some of the relay's in my xj, and i want to swap them all over to spdt if they aren't already. problem being, the local parts store wants 10 bucks a pop for them. but i found a relay on parts express for 1.50 each. they're a bosch automotive relay.

they look the same. but i can' really tell if the pinout is the same

you need to double check and see if any of the stock relays are not the standard SPDT relay setup. if they aren't, you may need to do some substantial rewiring to get the new relays to act like the factory setup

i will definitely check, but i found in another post that SPD relay's can be swapped in for ease of troubleshooting

Your right since you have a 90 RENIX (87-90). In 91, i believe thats also when they switched to the PDC. I have no clue what relays those take, but i would assume they are the same type, just more of them.

All of the relays in our RENIX's are SPDT (5 pin with 87 and 87a output) from the factory... however, only two of the four relays next to the battery actually take a SPDT (ill have to check again to see which ones exactly), the rest are SPST. So technically you can get both and just be very aware of where your putting them. IMO its much MUCH easier to just get all SPDT relays, and be able to swap them around when troubleshooting relay issues. If you have a mix of SPDT and SPST, and try to swap them around, you will create additional issues making diagnostics even harder!

I personally wouldnt get cheap relays.. but im sure they will work just fine. If it were me i would check ebay for BOSCH/TYCO relays (same company now).

Here is what i found for your doing a quick search: (ignore that a few say 20/30 amp .. there good to 40 amps.. 30 is all you need for stock replacements)
Single Relay:

Set of 5:

Set of 10:

As you can see they also come with sockets, which you wont use. I have however used them for other projects. One including my version of the Fitchbox(tm).

I have purchased from that seller a few times now, and i have been pleased. Just whatever you do make sure you get actual BOSCH/TYCO relays and not "Bosch type/style".

Hope that helps.

good eye, i hadn't noticed that they were "bosch type" they also have the tyco ones. but the ebay deal seems pretty good, just about the same price and it comes with the sockets.
