I have liked XJ's for a long time and recently bought my first one. It is a 92 Cherokee Laredo. I need some opinions on whether I should keep the thing and give it the work it needs or get rid of it and get something with a little less rust. I made the mistake of going to look at it at night end because of that I did not see that the rocker panels and the bottom of the quarter panels were pretty much completely rotted away. It has 230k on it but it runs very well. The interior almost looks brand new. It has the command trac system. I have already put new shoes, wheel cylinders, and brake line for the rear and I have replaced the power steering pressure house cause it was leaking. I have attached some pics let me know what you guys think.

Welcome to the XJ life. Mine has rot also. Was thinking bout cutting the rockers away & adding slider's myself, might be an option for you also.

Look under the carpet before you decide what to do but if rockers are the only problem I'd fix it. You can get replacement rocker panels from Sherman for about $50 each (link). Or you can get some 2x2 steel tubing welded in. Either way not a huge problem really.

I got a good look underneath the jeep when it was on the lift getting new brakes and the floor pans themselves only have surface rust. atleast from the bottom side, which is the most likely said it would start rusting from I would think
